Old Masters – Different Heroines

14 March – 2 May 2009

Large-format photoworks inspired by the 19th Century paintings of J.W.Waterhouse, Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema and others. British artist Phil Sayers masquerades as the female subjects to create contemporary feminist interpretations.

Phil Sayers is featured in the documentary film about Waterhouse accompanying that exhibition, and has recently exhibited in some of the prestigious UK galleries, also featured in the film, which lent works to the museum: Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool, Leeds Art Gallery and Lady Lever Art Gallery.
